Residence

Malta has worked hard to establish itself as an attractive residential base to a variety of foreign individuals.

As a small island nation, it has endeavoured to ensure that an appropriate balance be maintained and that its immigration policies continue to be sustainable.

Any foreign individual, be they EU national or not, must be conscious of the fact, that for them to remain ‘permanently’ within Maltese territory, they are obliged to apply for a suitable residence status and be regularised accordingly.

Oathbound Consultancy is focused on:

  • advising our clients in determining the route of eligibility available to them;
  • assisting in the preparation of the documentation required for the submission to the relevant authorities;
  • representing its clients throughout the relevant processes involved;
  • facilitating with the application for the renewal of Maltese residence permits.

With a wealth of experience in advising and assisting individuals in applying for and attaining the correct residential status, we are here to determine the most efficient and pragmatic approach to achieving your  expectations.

EU Nationals

EU/EEA/ Swiss nationals and their family members may reside and move freely within Malta on the same conditions as Maltese nationals for a period of three months without any conditions or any formalities, with this period being extendable to 6 months where a person is seeking employment, provided they do not become an unreasonable burden on the social assistance system of Malta.

Upon the lapse of the above-mentioned period/s such persons are required to register their status for them to be issued a residence certificate/card, which may be applied for on the basis of:

  • EMPLOYMENT/SELF-EMPLOYMENT
  • STUDY
  • FAMILY MEMBER
  • ECONOMICALLY SELF-SUFFICIENT PERSONS (PENSIONERS AND RETIRED PERSONS FALL UNDER THIS CATEGORY)
  • RESIDENCE PROGRAMMES

Non-EU Nationals

Non- EU Nationals, or Third country nationals (TCNs) are those persons who are not EU/EEA/Swiss nationals.

TCNs are not specifically entitled to reside in Malta and must therefore qualify and apply for a specific status, in order to be authorised to remain within the territory.

The most common status through which TCNs are granted the right to residence are:

  • EMPLOYMENT/SELF-EMPLOYMENT
  • STUDY
  • FAMILY MEMBER
  • RESIDENCE PROGRAMMES
